This season for Native Awareness is over, and looking back over the past year fills the team with great excitement and happiness. Each class that we have run has exceeded our hopes and has provided insight for the classes that we have chosen to hold next year. We have so enjoyed the group classes, individual tuition and specialist's sessions, mainly due to meeting great people and realising that so many share our passion and will pass the skills and knowledge onto others.
One of the highlights of the year was teaching bow making to a group of teenagers, from the Aquila project. We spent a school term carving split ash logs into fully functional self bows. Working on this project gave Native Awareness great hope for the future. It was most apparent just how much respect and enthusiasm these students had for the natural world and importantly, their desire to protect it.
We can’t wait for next year to see returning students and to meet the new ones. We have compiled a Schedule for 2008 calendar, and as you will see we have yet to add locations. We wanted to get the schedule out as early as possible for you to plan next year. We predict that our venues will once again be in the south of the country.
For those of you using your tracking mind you will have noticed that we are starting our classes in July 2008. This is not because we are fair weather survivalists but due to the fact that Feathers and James will be spending winter, spring and early summer, in the USA. Starting in January they will be honing their skills for the coming teaching year and are hoping to wander many states of America to bring back new skills to pass on through Native Awareness. They will emerge from the wilderness, once in a while, to check emails but please be patient for a reply. They return to England on the 30th June.
Whilst it is not necessary to send deposits at this stage we are anxious that you express your intentions as soon as possible. We need to have a fairly good idea of numbers and then if necessary, we will attempt to arrange extra courses for those that are over booked.
We wish to end this news item by conveying our deepest thanks to those who have spent time in the woods with us. Your passion and drive is truly inspiring. See you next year.
Its good to share the knowledge,
Native Awareness.
